Dear South Huntington Community,

We are excited to extend an invitation to members of our community to apply for two focus group committees that will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation and Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) in our district. These committees will explore key areas, analyze current practices, and provide recommendations that align with our goals to optimize resources and enhance educational offerings.

Transportation Committee
The Transportation Committee will focus on reviewing our current transportation operations to identify potential cost-saving strategies. This committee will examine a range of starting and ending times for our schools to improve transportation efficiency. The group will review traffic patterns, conduct relevant studies, and develop recommendations that prioritize minimal disruptions to our current structures.  This committee will meet on the following dates: January 13, 28; February 5, 25; March 13, 27; April 2, 24. 

Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) Committee
The UPK Committee will focus on strategies to maximize the use of our state-funded Universal Pre-K allotment. This group will analyze space requirements, optimal start and end times, traffic considerations, length of the Pre-K day, and before/aftercare options. The recommendations from this committee will guide the district in creating an impactful UPK program that is accessible and beneficial to our youngest learners.  This committee will meet on the following dates: January 16, 27; February 6, 26; March 10, 25; April 2, 23.

Application and Timeline
We are seeking individuals with diverse perspectives and a commitment to our district’s success. If you are interested in participating in one of these committees, please complete the application found here.  Applications will be accepted until November 27th.

Committees will be formed, and applicants will be notified of their selection during the week of December 16th. Meetings will begin in early January 2025, and will be held from 4pm - 6pm.
